September, 2023: On Your Way Home

I’ve been seeing pictures of friends and family visiting the sunflower fields near my home.  This happens every September.  Apple picking, clear blue skies, and sunflowers…these are symbols of September to me.  They are also reminders that summer is winding down and this always lands with bittersweetness (is that a word? lol It is now).

On one hand, the dog days of summer are nearly over.  The oppressive heat, the high humidity…it’s finally ready to evolve into cool, crisp days.  Sweata Weatha. That is a huge and much welcomed blessing, let me tell you.

However, that also means that the warm sunny days full of wild flowers, swimming, fresh air flowing through the windows, crickets chirping, lightning bugs, and the sounds of cicadas buzzing are nearly over. Soon we will once again be blanketed with snow.  YUCK.

It’s a reminder that time marches on, seasons change, and every day we live brings us closer to going home.  Our real home.  Our celestial home.  I remember when I first started talking to Spomie that’s one of the things he told me.  That every day I live is a step on the journey toward home.  The goal is to make the journey there the best that I can.  To live with gusto, he said.

John Mayer has a song called “On The Way Home” that always reminds me of this time of year and it also fits in perfectly with what Spomie said.  He sings about how it’s September and the season is changing.  They’re calling people out of the ocean and sending them home.  But just remember on your way home, you were never meant to feel alone…

I linked to a video of the song if you would like to listen to it.

On this journey as we watch one season evolve into another, just remember that although the days are long but the years are short, and it can feel like life is flying by, you were never meant to feel alone. Look around you for the love to be found.  Look to spirit for the true love that can fill your heart.  And look here to our little tribe full of friendship and comradery.  Enjoy the journey and find some joy along the way.

Xo,

V.
