The In Between | September, 2024

The air is crisp today.  As I sit here sipping my coffee with a blanket over my legs, I enjoy the refreshing breeze blowing through the house.  Just a few days ago it was blistering hot, humid, and miserable. It seems that as soon as September hit, Mother Nature turned the page to the next season of weather.

I love fall in Ohio. Blue skies, crisp air, bright red apples for picking. The leaves are just beginning to turn but not yet fully. It’s a beautiful, in-between place.  A place between hot summer and cold winter.

The in between is great because it’s a place of becoming.  It’s a place of resting.  You get reprieve from what was, but you aren’t yet obligated to what’s on the horizon.

Your spiritual path is the same.  Sometimes you are actively enmeshed in a season of growth or perhaps of mourning.  A season of shadow work or just a season of shadow with behavior that doesn’t propel you forward.

There is a time and a purpose to every season. Everything you do, every place you go, and every emotion you feel has value.  It has a lesson to be learned, it has love to be found, it has growth to be grown.

When that season is done, you enter the in between.  It’s a time to process, integrate, transmute what no longer serves you. A time to start getting excited for what’s to come next. To me, September is just that place.  There is some mourning for the loss of the sun-soaked days and the warm air on your skin. On the other hand, the air is charged with what is to come next.
