Can you believe it is already May?  It blows my mind how fast time flies these days.  If only the Ohio weather would behave like it’s May, things would be awesome.  It’s been rainy and cold here, but I know that soon the sun will be shining, flowers blooming, and the pool will be sparkling.

My head has been abuzz with thoughts of what flowers to plant and the things that need done to transform my yard into a mini Shangri-la. Every year I make a little more progress than the year before.

It is so important that your space reflect your spirit.  Your home should be your safe haven.  Your soft place to fall.  It should be comfortable to you and nurture you.

For me, that looks like neutral colors, lots of plants, books, crystals, soft rugs, and cozy throw blankets.  I like warm wood tones, well warm tones in general.  I can’t stand gray.  I like natural, organic looking things. I prefer gold over silver and don’t like anything too flashy or gaudy.

Outside, I like the front of my home to be more clean and manicured, but the backyard I want to be like an overflowing English garden with flowers everywhere.

To me, this is all perfection.  However, during the four years Fred and I were together, this was all torture to him. He would just grunt about how it’s all unnecessary.  His home looks like a typical bachelor pad but not because he doesn’t know how or needs a woman’s touch, but because that’s how he prefers it.  He has ZERO things on his walls.  I mean nothing.  No throw pillows.  No plants.  No décor.  He is a minimalist to the core and the thought of having any extra stuff in his home makes his skin crawl.  To him, his haven looks like an empty box with a couch, TV, computer, and bed.

I recently spent about two days on a dating site before turning tail and shutting it down.  It was a big NOPE for me.  However, during that time I noted that if I even caught a glimpse of a motorcycle, sports car, or a bunch of sports paraphernalia, it was an immediate no for me.  Ugh I would hate to live a life full of those things.

Think about what makes your home cozy to you. Think about what turns you off. The next step is to be intentional about creating a space that reflects your vision. Think about what your dream home looks like, feels like, smells like.  What colors would make it dreamy for you?  Now set about creating some version of that for yourself.

xo,

V.

I love reading your words. Always insightful with meaning and love. Thank you for sharing. I still say you should write a book.
